PRIVATE SOYBEAN VARIETY PROTECTION NOTICE
The buyer of these soybean varieties represents that he is purchasing the seed solely for purposes of producing a grain crop. The soybean seed, and any product from the seed, shall not be resold as seed or used for seed breeding purposes. The buyer agrees not to alter or permit the alteration of the seed or any product of the seed, through genetic technique or otherwise.
Use or sale as seed of the crop produced from these soybean varieties is prohibited.
YIELD AND PRODUCT INFORMATION
Many new varieties are introduced by Hoegemeyer every year because of advances in technology, new variety selections,
customer demand or other variety improvements. Each year we plant many variety and strip test plots. We welcome and encourage you to stop and take a look. Most of these plots will be weighed, and the results are printed out, win or lose, in regional yield books. If you have questions about any of the varieties, new or old, or would like a regional yield book, please contact one of the Hoegemeyer District Sales Managers, call the home office at 1-800-Ag Line 1 (1-800-245-4631), or contact
us on the Web at www.TheRightSeed.com.
THE BENEFITS OF PLANTING NEW SEED
Each year, we evaluate hundreds of soybean varieties in small plot testing to provide the highest yielding genetics available in the industry. By purchasing new seed growers are best able to access the most elite germplasm, which is constantly being improved. In providing the best "new" genetics to growers, Hoegemeyer Hybrids has acknowledged to our genetic suppliers we will make our customers aware that saving and planting patented seed is illegal. We also know that studies have shown that there is a yield advantage to planting "new" seed. Illinois Crop Improvement Association completed a 19-year study in which the certified seed outyielded the bin-run by 2.73 bushel per acre. The advantage to planting new seed is even greater when you consider the average loss of 10-15% cleanout at harvest for bin-run seed.
Hoegemeyer offers convenient packaging choices that allow growers flexibility to accept seed in various choices of packaging. With consideration of the multiple choices for packaging and the quality insurance for varietal purity that Hoegemeyer can
provide because of our field inspection protocol and production techniques, a grower needs to carefully analyze the true cost of using bin-run seed over "new" seed, especially when you consider the legal exposure to planting the patented varieties.
In purchasing new seed, there are additional limited warranty-benefits like the agronomic support offered by Hoegemeyer and the risk-management benefit of the Roundup¨ Rewards program, which has paid out over $500M to growers since 1997.
Buying new seed also provides funding for the research and development of new traits and higher yielding germplasm as well as ensuring the successful introduction and commercialization of those traits. New trait introductions can take 7-9 years for commercialization and cost between $50-$100M.
Hoegemeyer is in the business to provide quality seed, service and information. Providing the proper agronomic, technical and legal information is the final point we would like to emphasize about purchasing "new" seed. With "new" seed, our people are ready to provide you with the most accurate information available to us. With "new" seed, we can also offer benefits such as replant discounts. We believe that you will agree the benefits of "new" seed are greater than using bin-run seed.
SEED PIRACY
Saving Roundup Ready® soybean seed for replanting or selling is called "Seed Piracy." It is illegal to save Roundup Ready Soybean Seed. All Roundup Ready soybeans are protected by U.S. patents. Monsanto requires that all growers that plant Roundup Ready soybeans sign a Monsanto Technology/Stewardship Agreement; however, even if a grower has not signed a Monsanto Technology/Stewardship Agreement, it is a legal violation for that grower to plant or sell Roundup Ready soybeans.
Technologies are very expensive to develop, and seed piracy hinders the development of new technologies. Practice good stewardship and keep your farming operation away from unnecessary risk by not saving Roundup Ready soybean seed.
STS¨ TOLERANT SOYBEANS
Hoegemeyer Hybrids has soybeans tolerant to higher rates of sulfonylurea herbicides or concern from sulfonylurea herbicide carryover. Tolerant varieties are labeled with the suffix "STS." Reliance® herbicide from DuPont is an example of a herbicide that STS soybeans are tolerant to. Using STS soybeans allows pre- or post-application of these specific herbicides up to 60 days before the soybean matures.
ROUNDUP READY¨ SOYBEANS
Hoegemeyer Hybrids markets soybeans tolerant to Roundup¨ herbicide. Variety numbers are labeled with the suffix "RR." Contact Hoegemeyer Hybrids for information about Roundup Ready® soybeans and the Monsanto Technology/Stewardship Agreement. If you have questions, please contact our home office at 1-800-Ag Line 1 (1-800-245-4631).
